Domaine Garon is in the hands of two young brothers, so often a recipe for success, and they already produce wines of exceptional quality.
The Garons have just over 7ha of vines. Most of their vines are planted in the pale-coloured, schist soils of the Côte Blonde, where their cuvée Triotes is very well suited to drinking in its relative youth. Their top cuvée, Rochins is a richer, bigger framed wine from a half a hectare plot of 30yo vines in the iron imbued, schist-dominant lieu-dit of the same name. Côte-Rôtie from pale-coloured schist soils tends to be very supple, elegant and open and are well suited to drinking in their relative youth, whereas Rochins gives a more powerful, structured, slowly evolving, long-lived wine. However, the Garons don't believe that their wines need long ageing and recommend that both can be drunk after four to five years from vintage.
The hallmark of their wines is the purity of their fruit, vinifications are gentle, destalking averages around 90% and oak is managed discretely.

CÔTE-RÔTIE 2016
Les Triotes
100% Syrah
100% Syrah (13% alc.)
This comes from four lieux-dits and 25yo vines in the Côte Blonde – pale, decomposed schist in the centre of the appellation just south of Ampuis. Aged for 21 months in new to 15yo barrels and demi-muids, the nose offers black fruits, violets, olives and pepper, and the palate is then supple and elegant, with fine grained tannins.
CÔTE-RÔTIE 2011
Les Rochins
100% Syrah
100% Syrah (12.5% alc.)
The vines here are planted in a superb site just north of Ampuis, on a steep southfacing hillside. The topsoil is quite rich, overlying blue and red schist imbued with iron oxide. Upon aeration, floral notes appear, then blackcurrant and mulberry. The palate is well-structured, rich, with a density of ripe fruit, good acidity and ripe tannins, and a little herbal touch on the long finish. Just 2,000 bottles of this top cuvée produced. For drinking now to 2030.
